Northcott Disability Services is a strong supporter of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
Northcott is also an active participant in the Every Australian Counts campaign, which has been working across the country to generate awareness, garner community support and campaign for an NDIS.
The NDIS was devised and recommended by the Productivity Commission in July 2011, after an Inquiry into Disability Care & Support which found that “the current disability support system is underfunded, unfair, fragmented, and inefficient, and gives people with a disability little choice and no certainty of access to appropriate supports” (Productivity Commission 2011, Disability Care and Support, Report no. 54, Canberra, p.2).
The NDIS will revolutionise the way people with a disability, their families and carers are supported in Australia. It will be a person-centred system which will support choice for people with disability, their families and carers, put people in control of the care and support they receive, and provide the flexibility to explore and choose from a wider range of options and providers. The NDIS will be portable and provide support and assistance to all people with a disability no matter how their disability was acquired.
The Federal Government has begun the first stages of implementing the NDIS; however, the scheme is not guaranteed by any political party, the NDIS is not yet locked in.
So to Make the NDIS Real for every Australian, join the campaign in support of the NDIS!
